Before you start reading, what is " the Laundromat Effect?" Imagine you are a brand new pair of jeans owned by some early 30s forgetful girl who just moved to NYC with big dreams.
After being worn for the first time, she throws you into the laundry with a red tank top, a yellow skirt, orange shorts, and a couple more colourful pieces that you can’t even describe. You have no idea what is going on but at some point you are jumping up and down, rubbing against all those clothes you’ve never seen before (and probably you would be a terrible match with them if worn together). By the time it stops, you feel confused, stirred, wet, and absolutely lost.
Now imagine, that the person who owns you, has made a mistake (she has likely forgotten the soap), and it starts all over again. And again, cause this time she forgot to take you out of the washing machine because one of her new friends convinced her to go out to that bar that she hates, but not as much as saying no. So the next morning she starts the laundry again because, apparently, you smell bad -as if tobacco and whisky were the new fragrance from Dolce & Gabbana.
By the time you are out of the laundry, she is in her mid-30s and you are not even a pair of jeans anymore, just a scarred and wet piece of cloth.
If you've ever felt this confused in life, spinning around, so fast that you can’t even think, not knowing where you are going anymore while everyone else around you seems to have figured it out; this book is for you (you can say it is for a friend at the counter though).
